OPERA ROCK

a sketch for the BAVARIAN NATIONAL THEATRE MUNICH

Commemorating the 50-year anniversary of the re-opening of Bavaria's National Theatre in Munich in 1963,
MAX JOSEPH MAGAZINE asked AMA ARC.ARCHITECTURE to design the munich opera house if it was rebuilt today.

Today's National Theatre would be a rock that is itself a public space like Max-Joseph square in front of it. The statue of King Max I. welcomes visitors into an underground entrance that is visible from above. Also, auditorium and the stage are located underground. Today's National Theatre is a space that is freely accessible as a place of culture with an open program. A space truly available to the public is created on Max Joseph's square.

The upper hall of OPERA ROCK is accessible to the public. A platform allows viewers to see the live performance from above the auditorium.
