PRIVATE MANSION AT MAKATI CITY
|
|
Philippines, 2008
(Status: The building was carried out with creative adjustments in 2009.)
Contrary to first appearances, the will to holistic design for this
project is not directly in the foreground. The project was developed in
numerous conversations.
Individual memories from a distant past served as a source material.
The social conditions in the Philippines point to - both the need for
representation and in terms of isolation of the upper class - to France
in the late 18th Century. The starting point is therefore also the idea
of the house as a "hôtel particulier", which must continue to evolve in
this new place, as it was introduced as a new species from central
Europe under completely different conditions.
The adjacent areas of the designed space are mutually almost
interchangeable. Each room could fulfill many functions. Unlike the
WHITE CUBE spaces are not discharged from their own character, but on
the contrary, very defined in atmosphere, shape and size.
It is postulated here that the space itself makes a proposal to its use.
The floor plan assumes merely the use of the ground floor for social
gatherings. The top floor is kept private and is only accessible to the
owner and overnight guests. An aviary connects the opposing parts of
the house.
Because the air in the tropical climate must constantly be moved, there are no fixed separating walls, but separable areas. |
